Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me. He sends from Heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me; God sends his love and his faithfulness. –Psalm 57:1-3
Through some research on the life of David, I found that when he wrote this particular psalm, he was literally running for his life from Saul who was jealous of him and was trying to kill him. Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? How did you react? When you read these verses, how do they make you feel?
Like David, I am sure that we have all faced situations that seemed very overwhelming and almost unbearable. Many of us literally run for our lives everyday! We are run from poverty, from loneliness, from spiritual decadence, from failure, etc. But unlike David, we often try to deal with our problems on our own. We work 70 hours a week, jump from one relationship to the next; overwhelm ourselves with ‘Christian responsibilities,’ and completely tire ourselves out. But at the end of the day, we find that we still haven’t found fulfillment that we so desperately seek after.
If there is one thing that I want us to take from the verses outlined above, I want us to remember that even in impossible situations, we can still cry out to God and be heard. We should never forget that we can always find refuge under the wings of God. God loves us and will always be faithful in all situations, but we have to remember to come to him in all situations. He does not get any pleasure from seeing us in tumultuous situations, but we sometimes have to face those situations before we can get that which is ours, and in order for God’s glory to be manifested in our lives. (Deut. 8:2)
David was called a man after God’s heart because he never stopped crying out to God. In both good and bad times, he was always quick to turn to God and he was richly blessed for this. I want to encourage us to become people after God’s heart. When we cry out to God, He recognizes our voice and gives us a personalized response to our situation. God is always with us, in times of joy and sorrow, and he is waiting for us to cry out unto him. You cries NEVER go unheard.
Stay blessed and spread the word.
