WHAT WILL YOU DO?
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. –John 16:13

I recently watched a film where a man had been ogling a woman that was not his wife. He met her while he was on a business trip, and they exchanged numbers. A few weeks later, he and his wife got into a little spiff and he decided to call the other woman and arrange to meet her at a hotel close to his job. While he was at work, his wife sent him a bouquet of flowers and a note apologizing about their fight and asked that he come home right after work so that they could talk things out. After he finished at work, he got into his car to drive either to the hotel room where the woman was waiting for him or back home where his wife was waiting. As he drove, he stopped at an intersection on the road; he could either go one way to his wife, or the other way to the hotel where the other woman was waiting. What would you do?

I was faced with a situation at work where someone blatantly wronged me. Everything in me wanted to run into this person’s office and let her have it. I had replayed the words I was going to say in my head over and over again the entire day, and the end of the day finally arrived. I could have either gone to her and given her a piece of my mind, or walked by and said goodnight with a smile and just allowed things die down. As I packed up my things, I stood at my desk for a few minutes trying to decide what to do. My anger was turning volcanic, but that voice telling me to just walk away was getting more persistent. What would you do?

A group of people are standing around the water cooler, talking about every single person that popped into their heads. As you walk over to get some water, they began to talk about someone that you did not really fancy. Everything in you begins to cringe because you have some juicy gossip that you could add to the conversation. Do you say something or do you just quietly walk away? If you said something, you would instantly become a part of the “in-crowd,” but if you just quietly walked away, you could become the next victim of their gossip session. You have gotten your cup of water; do you stay or do you walk away? What would you do?

A new neighbor recently moved in, and you noticed that he always looked gloomy. It has been over a month now, and the only visitors you have ever noticed go in to his house were the cable guy and the furniture delivery men. One day, as you were about to leave for your men’s fellowship, you noticed him carrying in some groceries and sniffling; he must have been crying. You look at your watch, and you are already running late, but something about this man just seems to pierce your heart. Do you walk over and talk to him, or do you just get into your car and drive off. What would you do?

You see dear friends; we are all faced with choices on a daily basis. Do you stay or do you go? Do you say something or do you just let it slide? Do you participate or do you stay out of it? Do you walk over or do you walk away? All of these choices stand to either perfect our faith or produce sin in us. The choices we make will determine the outcomes/consequences we have to live with.

We are reassured in the verse above that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. However, the enemy’s voice is also present, telling us to go down the path that leads to sin. Oftentimes, the choices are not clearly black and white. A lot of decisions we have to make usually fall into the "gray areas," so it is imperative that we learn to recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit through prayer, consistent study of the Word, and godly counsel.

I challenge you today dear friends; always listen to that voice of truth. It will never stir you wrong or fail you. His choices may not always be the popular choice or the choice that seems fair, but I assure you that He will always guide you into all truth, into the will of God. At the end of the day, the choice is still yours. What will you do?

Grace and peace be with you.
