“What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.” –Matthew 10:27
Have you ever experienced a seemingly dark period in your life? A time where you perhaps felt alone and abandoned, a time where everything in your world suddenly seemed to lose its luster? A time when you perhaps found yourself going through a “wilderness experience?” Every believer who has been called by God has experienced or will at some point experience this season of life.
At the start of Jesus’ ministry on earth, He spent forty days and nights in the wilderness alone. We read in Matthew 4:1 that ‘then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.’ I believe that God led Him there not only to be tested, but also that He could become as Hebrews 2:17 indicates, a merciful and faithful High Priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people. And so, because He Himself was tempted, He is able to kelp those who are being tempted.
Jesus learned in the dark what it was like to be human; to face temptation, to feel alone, to be hungry, to be thirsty, etc. He faced all of these and yet remained faithful to God, thus becoming a model for all believers to emulate. Jesus spent the rest of His life here on earth sharing with multitudes all that He learned in the dark and everything the Father whispered in His ears. Because of His example on earth and that of other patriarchs that have gone before us, we have models to emulate, principles to be guided by, and experiences to learn from.
What has God whispered in your ears? What has He spoken to you in the dark? I challenge you to share them with the world when you get back into daylight! The Holy Bible that we all read and love today is a compilation of different patriarch’s experiences with God. Each of the books were inspired by God because the authors and/or characters walked with Him, heard from Him and learned from Him. They spoke in the daylight what God told them in the dark, and they proclaimed from the rooftops what God whispered in their ears.
What are you doing with your experiences with God?
Grace and peace be with you.
