THE TRUE NATURE OF CHRIST
“The greatest among you will be your servant.” –Matthew 23:11

“For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as ransom for many.”-Mark 10:45

When you think of a servant, what do you think of? A person that waits on his master hand and foot? Someone who is poor? Jesus? It is interesting to think of Jesus in the same category as someone who waits on people, isn’t it? However, Jesus went out of his way everyday during his life of earth to serve others. He washed his disciple’s feet, he fed multitudes, and he even gave his life as ransom for people that had no regard for him. Jesus was and is the greatest example of servanthood, and he has called us to imitate his example. He has called us to give our lives to others as he has given his for us. He has called us to serve one another, expecting nothing in return.

In John 21:15-17, after Christ resurrected, he asked Peter if he loved him, and Peter responded, ‘Of course I do.’ Then Jesus said, ‘feed my sheep.’ He asked Peter the question a second time; Peter said of course I love you. Then Jesus said, ‘take care of my sheep.’ He asked a third time, and again said, ‘feed my sheep.’ What Jesus was wittingly telling Peter was that, ‘don’t just love me with words; love me with actions.’ I believe that God is asking the same of us today. He is asking that if we love him, we should serve others; feed others, take care of them, provide for them, etc.

As I mentioned earlier, Jesus was the truest example of servanthood, and we ought to strive to express his nature by serving others. He gave to us, knowing that there was nothing we could possibly give him in return. We also ought to give of ourselves, and expect nothing in return. I know this is a difficult task, as we live in a world that teaches us to ask, “What is in it for me?” before we do anything. However Jesus tells us in Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Brethren, let us begin to live out the example of true servanthood. Let us learn to empty ourselves for the benefit of others. Let us learn and practice the true meaning of losing our lives daily. Let us forget about recognition and rewards, and begin to feed and take care of God’s sheep. “I now understand that there is an eternal and immeasurable value of love-motivated servanthood.” –James Robinson

I ask you today brethren; DO YOU LOVE HIM? DO YOU LOVE CHRIST? DO YOU TRULY LOVE HIM? Then feed his sheep. Take care of his people. Serve on another in Godly love. Therein lies the achievement of true success in life. Therein lies the true meaning of servanthood. Therein lies the true nature of Christ. Let us go for it today!

Stay blessed and spread the word.
