God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. –Acts 17:27
Paul spoke the words in the verse above to some philosophers in Athens who had an altar dedicated to God, with the inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Many of us are just like these philosophers, we worship an unknown God. I know this sounds very absurd, but it blows my mind to see ‘believers’ in Church that have so little faith in the limitless power that is God.
I read back to the examples throughout the Bible and I see all the incredible miracles that the Lord performed and I wonder why we don’t hear of the same miracles happening in our time, and when we do hear of them, we don’t believe. The God we serve today is the same God that lived during the Bible times, so what changed? WE DID! We became wise in our own eyes, and we have become like the philosophers that Paul spoke to in Athens. We have to see to believe. We have to be able to explain everything. But God is telling us that to know him; we have to learn to believe without seeing, and have to faithfully accept even if it does not make sense.
So how do we get to know God?
We have to get move from our personal opinions to an understanding of God according to what he tells us about Himself in the Bible. Our opinions of God have limits, but God lets us know in his word that he is limitless. He lets us know that he created the entire earth and everything in it. He is bigger than any temple that human hands can build, and he cannot be represented by anything man’s hands can make, our minds cannot even begin to fathom the magnitude of God. But God did this so that we would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from us.
He is not far from each one of us. Many of us treat God as if he is millions of miles away from us, but God longs to reveal himself to us like he did to Abraham, to Moses, to Jacob, to Hannah, to Gideon, to Paul, etc. To see God and to get to know God, we have to seek him and reach out for him in faith that he is not far from us. Let us stop treating God as an unknown God and get to know him for ourselves. When we find out who God is through his word, we can find him in our everyday lives, in our hardships, in our joys, in our fears, in our battles, etc
Are you still worshipping an unknown God? Think about it!
Stay blessed and spread the word.
