|Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. ~Hebrews 12:1
As I read this verse, I started thinking about how many of us make this Christian walk harder than it ought to be. There are many times that we put ourselves in predicaments even though we know that they could lead to sin. Do you remember when that guy/girl called you to their room to hang out at 12am? Do you remember when you told yourself that it was okay to go to that bar because you had no plans of drinking? Do you remember when you chose to hang out with the bad crowd because you were sure that they couldnít influence you in anyway?
We all know to some degree what our weaknesses are, so we need to stay away from situations that may test that. If you have a weakness for people of the opposite sex, then donít be alone with them at ungodly hours. If you have a problem with compromising, stay away from people that may force you to compromise. The Bible says, ďResist the devil and he will flee from you.Ē Resist those situations and you can avoid sin. Let us throw off everything that hinders! Friends, relationships, jobs, activities, etc., cut them off. If anything stands in the way of your walk with Christ, then itís not worth having. God ought to come first in our lives in every situation, so when we place other things above him, we are idolizing them, and that is against Godís 1st commandment.
The best way to avoid sin is to avoid sinful situations. God assures us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that no temptation has seized except for what is common to man, he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. There is always a way out, the question is ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE IT? If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sin is lest, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that befalls the enemies of God. (Hebrews 10:26)
You have received knowledge of the truth so do not test God.
Stay blessed and spread the word.
