|Have you ever wondered why it is so hard to give up certain things as Christians? After talking to several people about Christ, I noticed a trend; what turns people away from Christianity the most is knowing that becoming a true Christians would mean abstaining from sex, smoking, cursing, and doing most of the things we do in the world.
Are you a Christian that still has premarital sex? Do you still disregard the laws of the land (govt.)? Do you do still do things that the Bible clearly instructs us against? If you answered yes to at least one of these questions, then you are human!!!
We all deal with certain things as Christians, and we find it hard to give up some things that, although we know are wrong, we still enjoy doing. The Lord is telling you to give him a chance to work in you. He is calling out to you, reaching out his hand, and all you have to do is reach for it and let him pull you up. If you were to die today, do you think you would go to heaven? If you have to think about your answer, then its time to make a change.
One big problem that I dealt with was partying. I absolutely love to dance, and whenever a party was thrown at my school, I was the first one of the dance floor trying to lure guys to dance with me. At the time, I didn’t think it was a problem because I was having a good time, and that was all that mattered to me, but then afterwards, an overwhelming feeling of guilt would overcome me. I realized that people who weren’t born again looked at me, and thought who is she to try to preach to me when she is doing the same thing I am doing. God had a job for me to do, and me being out on the dance floor “bumping and grinding” was standing in the way of that. I prayed about it all summer, and I was determined to change, so I let God renew me from the inside out, and I completely lost any desire to behave like that. I am not saying that it is wrong to go to a party; I am just saying that it wasn’t for me, and the Holy Spirit convicted my heart to make me realize this.
When you admit to yourself and to God that you need to make some changes in your life, the spirit of God in you convicts you so badly that you would eventually have to stop because it is no longer fun. God says in his word that his love for the sinner surpasses his hatred for the sin committed!!! He loves us, so why then do we keep hurting him? He sees everything we do, and how do you think that makes him feel? Imagine having to watch your child that you love soo much do things you specifically told him/her not to do? Imagine begging your child everyday to stop, and they totally ignore you? That’s the same way we make God feel every time we do things that we ought not to do. He sent his son to die for you!!! His mercy is the only reason you and I are here today, so why are we taking it for granted?
Call on him now and tell him that you are ready to change. Tell him to convict your heart when you feel like doing things that you ought not to. Tell him that you want to wholeheartedly serve him. Tell him you love him. Tell him that the sacrifice he made was worth it!!!
Stay blessed and spread the word.
