Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and
wickedness have in common? Or for what fellowship can light have with darkness. –2 Corinthians 6:14
I noticed after talking to some Christians that some of us try to avoid
interacting with unsaved people. I asked one of them why she chose to stay away
from non Christians, and she said that because the Bible says that we should not
be yoked together with unbelievers. It is true that the Bible does say this,
but it also says that Christ interacted with sinners all the time. He said that
he did not come to help the saved, but the unsaved. (A doctor doesn’t treat the
well, they cater to the sick)
The word yoke means something that binds or unites. We can’t win souls for
Christ if we stay away from those that need to be saved. We just need to learn
to be careful not to yoke ourselves with them and get pulled down, instead we
should befriend them and pull them in. A great preacher I know once said that
when we yoke ourselves with unbelievers, we either pull them in or they pull us
out. My point is just that we shouldn’t stop interacting with unbelievers
because we think it is a sin, God wants us to pull people in, and the only way
we can do this is by having some sort of communication with them. We just ought
to be very careful and stay prayerful so that we can stay strong enough to pull
them in, instead of the other way around. If you feel like your walk with
Christ is being affected by a non-believer, then you need to get out of that
relationship and give him/her to God.
Mary Magdalene was a sinner, but Jesus’ care and patience turned her around, and
she became a great woman of God.
“Let him who is without sin cast the first stone”
Stay blessed and spread the word.
