And the Lord said unto Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.” –Exodus 14:15
The above verse was the Lord’s command to the Israelites after they left Egypt. The Lord had delivered them from the hands of Pharaoh in Egypt, but they found themselves stuck between what we I like to think of as ‘a rock and a hard place.’ They were in the wilderness; the Egyptians were chasing them from behind, and in front of them was the Red Sea. What were they to do? They began to grumble to Moses, complaining that he brought them out into the desert to die and raving that they would have been better of serving the Egyptians in slavery. When Moses turned to the Lord, God said to him, “Tell the children of Israel to go forward.”
The Lord’s command that the Israelites go forward might have seemed a bit ludicrous because the Red Sea has a surface area of about 174,000 square miles (450,000km2), roughly about 1,200 miles (1,900km) long, and about 190 miles (300km) wide at its widest point, and a maximum depth of about 8,200ft (2,500m). In spite of all of this, the Lord instructed them to go forward, and when they obeyed, He parted the sea so that they walked through the Red Sea on dry land. How unbelievable is this? It required great faith to be obedient to the Lord in this seemingly impossible venture, but as one of my favorite quote reads, “The will of God will never take you where the grace of God will not protect you.” Do you believe this today?
You may find yourself in a situation similar to that of the Israelites. You may be faced with seemingly unscalable mountains or impassable seas, but as the Lord said to the Israelites, He may be saying to you today, go forward! The Lord loves to work in impossible situations; look at His track record throughout all the biblical examples, raising the dead, turning water into wine, dying and resurrecting on the third day, and not to mention speaking all of creation as we know it into existence.
What is your Red Sea today dear friend? Is it a challenging task at work? Is it getting through this semester of school? Is it starting a new experience in your life? Is it mustering up the courage to leave a relationship/job/situation? Is it giving something up? The order is to move forward in faith that the Commander will go before you and level your mountains and part your Red Seas. As long as you make the Most High your Shepherd and Commander, trust that His will will never take you where His grace will not protect you.
The word for you today dear friends is this, Go Forward! I challenge you to move forward in faith that that Lord will go before you. Do not let fear keep you from achieving great things. Do not let laziness handicap you. Do not let apathy keep you in a rut. Dare to be great this year! Dare to do something totally radical! Dare to dream big! Dare to achieve at least one of your dreams! Dare to walk in great faith! Dare to walk through the Red Sea! Dare to go forward!
Grace and peace be with you.
