|But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me. –Isaiah 9:24
I have known my family all my life and I feel like I know them pretty well, but I find out something new almost everyday that I never knew about them. This just goes to show that the ‘getting to know you’ aspect of a relationship never stops. Getting to know someone is an ongoing process that takes forever!
The same is true in getting to know God. Many of us claim that we have known God all our lives, and know everything there is to know about him. This is a fallacy if I have ever heard one. We cannot learn all there is to know about God in a few days, weeks, months, or even years. Getting to know him is an experience that takes all eternity. I use the word experience here because I am absolutely stupefied every time I learn a new thing about God or experience Him in a new way. Paul says in Colossians 1:10, “and we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.”
You please God when you grow in knowledge of who he is. So I urge you brethren to become more intentional about getting to know God. You can get to know him through his word, through prayer, praise and worship, and even through other Christians. Begin spending time with the Lord again today. Put him at the top of the priority list of your everyday life. Treat him like you would treat your very best friend. And if you do these, you can be assured that he will reveal himself to you in new and exciting ways, and then you too can live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way.
Stay blessed and spread the word.
