The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. -1 Kings 19:11-13
What is the Spirit of God saying to you today? What is he telling you concerning your spiritual life? About your relationship? About your finances? About that pressing issue in your life?
Be still and know that he is God! He is speaking to you concerning those issues that are troubling you today, but you have chosen to drown out his voice with noise and worries of the world. How can you hear a gentle whisper through the noise of the television, radio, friends, your thoughts, etc? He is telling you today to be still and know that he is God. Silence sometimes speaks louder than words. And it is only in silence that we hear God’s gentle whisper. I never realized how true this was until I experienced it.
I was seeking God’s voice concerning an issue that was troubling me, and I didn’t know what to do. I prayed, and he responded, but I did not believe that it was God’s voice, it was too quiet. So I prayed and asked that he would give me confirmation, he did, but still I didn’t believe him, it could have been a coincidence. Then I prayed for another confirmation, he gave it to me, but still I didn’t believe. Then I asked him to send a prophet to me that would confirm this voice, but instead, He spoke to me and said that he was going to develop my ears. I had to shut off everything and just wait to hear from him, and he spoke to me, and I heard him.
His voice may not come to you through a cloud of smoke or a prophet, but as long as you are born of the Spirit and washed in His blood, that gentle voice will always be there, and you just need to be silent to hear it. You may underestimate that voice, but it is the one thing that will always be there if you truly are in Christ. He’s telling you in Isaiah 30:21 that “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Be careful not to mistake your own desires for the word of God. Consistently pray for the spirit of discernment, and God will give it to you. He is indeed a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
Lastly brethren, if you have prayed and been silent before God, and you still don’t hear from Him, he may be silent because you refused to listen to what he already said. “But since you rejected me when I called and no-one gave heed when I stretched out my hand, since you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke, I in turn will laugh at your disaster…”-Proverbs 1:24-31. Quickly repent and heed to his voice when he instructs. It may be hard to heed to God’s voice because he may tell you to do something you don’t want to do, but remember that in God, something better is always around the corner.
Stay blessed and spread the word.
