By faith, he (Moses) left Egypt not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. –Hebrews 11:27
After Moses killed an Egyptian that was beating up a Hebrew, some people found out about it, and Moses fled Egypt because he feared for his life; he feared what Pharaoh would do to him. (see Exodus 2:11-25) It was during this time that Moses had the burning bush experience and heard from God concerning his future and the future of the Israelites; Moses was going to lead the Israelites out of Egypt into the Promised Land. He had doubts about his ability to lead; he brought up his speech difficulties, his fear of people’s unbelief, his unworthiness, and his lack of eloquence. God appeased most of these fears by showing Moses signs and wonders and appointing his brother Aaron to go with him. The same Moses that begged God to send someone else to lead the Israelites was the same person that became one of the most courageous, confident and inspirational leaders there ever was.
One of our greatest fears is the fear of the unknown, that is, the fear of the future. High school students fear that they may never get into college, college students fear that may not get good jobs, singles fear that they may never get married, married couples fear that they may not have children, the list goes on and on. Like Moses, when faced with a vision for the future, most of us cringe in fear and consider the reasons why we cannot accomplish the tasks ahead of us. However, when we open our spiritual eyes to see Him who is invisible, and allow our faith to kick in, we can face life’s unknown with the assurance of the Father’s abiding presence.
God longs to reveal himself to us like He did to Moses, He longs to give us a vision for our future, but He needs us to have faith. The verse above makes it clear that Moses did what he did by faith. The only way we can face life’s unknown is by having faith, by being dedicated to the vision, and by staying committed. We ought to believe that God’s abiding presence is going to stay with us through it all. If this does not appease our fears, then nothing else will.
Brethren, I dare you to open your spiritual eyes to see Him that is invisible today. I dare you to face life’s unknowns hand in hand with Him. Moses was a man just like you and I; he started off being scared, hesitant, and coward, but because of his faith and confidence in God’s abiding presence, he emerged as one of history’s most powerful and courageous leaders. God longs to do the same in your life, why don’t you let Him begin the good work today?
Grace and peace be with you.
