What do Potiphar’s wife, Delilah, Eliab (David’s brother), Joseph’s brothers, and Peter have in common? Think about it for a second.
Joseph had a dream that his brothers, the sun, the moon, and all the stars were bowing down to him. He told his brothers, and they sold him into slavery. (Gen. 37) After this, he ended up working for one of Pharaoh’s officials, Potiphar who put him in charge of his entire household. Potiphar’s wife unsuccessfully tried to seduce Joseph many times, and eventually she framed him and got him arrested. (Gen. 39)
Samson was a man that was certainly anointed by God. He had a strength that couldn’t be matched by any other, but his weakness was women! When he saw an attractive woman, he wanted her. (Jud. 14:2) Thousands of men failed to overcome Samson, but after dallying with at least three women, he married Delilah. Thanks to her, he was captured, blinded and set to work pushing a grinding machine. (Jud. 16)
David, as we all know, was also anointed by God. He was a small, handsome, and ruddy young man that took up an undefeated giant’s challenge to battle. When his brother, Eliab, overheard him inquiring about this giant, he burned with anger and tried to discourage David by calling him conceited, wicked, etc. (1 Sam. 17)
Lastly, Jesus came to the world to die, and he definitely made this fact known to his disciples. On one occasion, Peter took Jesus to the side and began to rebuke him, saying, “Never Lord! This shall never happen to you.” Jesus had to immediately reprimand him saying, “Get thee behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me…” (Matt. 16: 21-23)
Have you figured out the common thread? All of the people I mention in the first paragraph were what I like to call “DREAM BLOCKERS.” As Jesus correctly labeled Peter, they too were stumbling blocks. Joseph, Samson, David, and Jesus, just to name a few, were called to do amazing things, but they had to overcome many obstacles before reaching their destiny. Just like them, we will also face many obstacles in route to our destinies, but it is up to us to decide whether or not we will let them block us from our dreams.
Joseph could have easily given up and remained a slave, but he didn’t. Samson could have given up and remained working for the Philistines, but he didn’t. David could have walked away from the challenge and went back to being a shepherd boy, but he didn’t. And Jesus could have gone up to heaven without suffering, but he didn’t. All of these people allowed God to turn their dream blockers into stepping-stones to help them reach their goals. They were over-comers! Can you say the same about your life?
What is your destiny? What/Who is standing in the way of you fulfilling this destiny? Are you going to allow them to block your dreams or are you going to turn them into stepping-stones? God did this for all the names I mentioned, and he longs to do the same for you, I dare you to allow him! Don’t get so caught up in dealing with whom or what is in your way, instead, overcome them and keep pressing on. The longer you allow them to block you, the longer it takes for you to reach your destiny.
But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of lives. –Genesis 50:19-20
Stay blessed and spread the word.
