I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. –Philippians 4:12
How many of us can say this about our lives? How many of us can honestly say that we are content in any and every situation we find ourselves in, be it good or bad? This concept was very hard for me to grasp for a while. I always prayed that God would help me to be content in every situation and I sincerely believed that I could get to that point, but for a long time, I could not do it. However, through my study of the word and inquiry of God, He revealed to me that if I would just see Him in every situation, I would be able to find contentment in every situation.
When we are able to see God in our situations, a feeling of peace should overcome us. If we believe God not to be a liar, then his promise never to leave nor forsake us has to be true. His promise that he will not put more on us than we can bear must be true, and His promise in Jeremiah 29:11 must be true; “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity…”
God has a perfect purpose for your life, and I challenge you to have faith in this truth. You may not understand why you are going through the situations you are facing, but I assure you that as long as you continue to trust God and seek his face, you will find that your present situation is all part of his perfect plan. Having this kind of faith is being content in every situation, and it is through being content that you find the strength to do everything through Christ.
Paul discovered this secret during His life on earth, and he has shared it with us. Don’t spend the rest of your life trying to discover a secret that has already been revealed to you. My challenge to you today is to see God in every situation you find yourself in, and when you can trust that He is still in control, no matter how crazy things get, you will certainly find contentment.
