If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land. -Isaiah 1:19
I spent this past weekend with a dear friend, and one of the most entertaining experiences was watching her frantically look for her cheque book. She searched her car, her house, and every purse she had used in the past couple of weeks to no avail. However, I got a text message from her yesterday that read, “The Holy Spirit is quite cool.” I responded asking for further details, and she wrote, “Was about to head out to work; still worrying about where I put the cheque book. The Holy Spirit said check the black bag by your bed. I said I had already checked it, but I obeyed and went back to the room ‘sha’. As I walked into the room, my eye caught my orange bag which had been right next to the black bag all this time. Yep! There it was! Actually there were two of them. I am loving this friendship with God thing!”
As I thought about my friend’s experience, I couldn’t help but remember someone else’s experience. I am sure you are all familiar with my other friend, Simon Peter. Simon had been fishing all day and caught nothing, and then Jesus, who just finished teaching a crowd, came and said to him, “Put out into the deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because You say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. (Luke 5:4-6)
Again I remind you, if you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land. The interesting commonality in the two stories above is the fact that the Lord called them both to do something they had already done before with no success. In their pride, they could have argued and reasoned with God and not obeyed, but instead, they trusted Him enough to just obey because, as Simon said, “You say so.”
What is the Lord calling you to do today? Perhaps you have tried it before and met with failure, but are you willing to try it again simply because the Lord said so? God can work so many things out for us without our involvement, but I believe that He wants to be much more than just a ‘genie in a bottle’ for us. He wants to be in a relationship with us. He wants to be involved in every minuscule detail of our lives. He wants us to know and recognize His voice. He wants us to trust Him enough to be willing and obedient in everything. Will you do this today?
The friendship with God thing is pretty amazing, if I may say so myself. I pray that your experiences with God will serve to help you to trust Him more and develop a closer friendship with Him. The most important element of a friendship is trust; I challenge you to trust the Lord today. In your daily encounters with Him, remember to be willing and obedient to whatever He tells you to do, simply because He said so. That, my friends, is trust at its best! I dare you to trust Him today!!!
Grace and peace be with you.
