“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” – Luke 22:42
Have you ever found yourself in a position where you just didn’t feel like doing anything? Have you ever not felt like going to Church, praying, reading your Bible, etc? Have you ever not done something that you knew you should do, just because you didn’t feel like it?
Many people, especially Christians, often find themselves in situations where they just don’t feel like doing things. This can be very disastrous for Christians, because we are required to do some things, and when we don’t do them because we don’t feel like it, we put our heavenly rewards at risk. When we let our emotions guard our lives, we become just as fickle as they are and that is a dangerous place to be.
When Jesus realized that his work on earth was done and that it was time for him to face crucifixion, he became deeply distressed and troubled and said, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.” –Luke 14:33-34. I am sure he didn’t feel like being beaten, humiliated, and being killed by having nails shoved through his hands and feet, but he knew that he had to go through it. Instead of complaining and refusing to die, Jesus went to his father and prayed for strength and fulfilled the purpose for which he was born into the world. He did not let his feelings get in the way of his commitment.
I am urging you brethren in the Lord to learn to start living beyond your feelings. Many people fail to fulfill their calling because they wait until they ‘feel’ something. You ought to begin to do what you know you should do, rather than what you feel. Your feelings are fickle, and you should never be mastered by them. I beg you to break free from living by your emotions and not be bound by them anymore!
Pray even when you don’t feel like it! Go to Church, even if you don’t feel like going! Minister even if you don’t feel like it! Get into your Word even if you are not in the mood to do so! Clean your house even when you don’t feel like doing so! Take care of your physical appearance even when you don’t feel like it! When you begin to do what you should rather than what you feel like doing, you become more Christ like, and you place yourself in a better position to fulfill that which you were called for. The more proactive you become as a Christian, the better positioned you will be to receive what God has for you. (Remember the parables of the; 10 virgins, talents, sheep & goats, workers in the vineyard, etc)
My challenge to you today is to begin to live beyond your emotions!
“Emotions can keep you out of the will of God and place you in the carnal realm.” –J. Meyer
