BE CALM & JUST BELIEVE
Wait for the Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. –Psalm 27:14

I have noticed in almost every story in the Bible that God was never in a rush. When He told Abraham that He would give him a son, Abraham had to wait. When He called Joseph, there had to be a period of waiting. We can talk about Moses, the Israelites, Joshua, David, Saul, etc, but it is the same idea. They all went through a period of waiting. I believe that the Lord had a purpose in their periods of waiting. Perhaps it was to test their faith, or maybe it was to build their faith. Whatever the case, there was a purpose in it, and they all had to go through it.

In Luke 8:41-42, we read about a man named Jairus that fell at Jesus’ feet and pleaded because his twelve year old daughter was sick and dying. Jesus accepted, but as He was walking to Jairus’ house amongst a large crowd, the woman with the issue of blood touched Him and He stopped to have a discussion with her. Jairus probably wanted to yell, ‘Jesus! What are you doing? I just told you that my daughter is dying and you’re standing here chit chatting with someone else?’ Well, his daughter did die and someone ran to them to break the news, but Jesus turned to Jairus and said, “Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.” Jesus did heal her.

Do not be afraid, just believe,’ ‘Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.’ Most of us are the kind of people that want what we want when we want it. But we serve a God that does what He wants when He wants to, so something/someone has to give. When our timing does not line up with God’s timing, we are called to a period of waiting.

I was in a restaurant last night, and when we ordered our food, we had to wait. The waiter took our orders and went to the kitchen to have it prepared, but we had to sit patiently at the table and wait until the food came. Because the waiter took our orders, we trusted that our food would come. Though it took a while, we sat there and just engaged in different conversations until the food arrived. Why is it so difficult for us to wait on the Lord in a like manner?

One of my favourite verses, Isaiah 28:16 reads, “Whoever believes will not act hastily.” Do you believe? God is NEVER late, and we have to trust that He knows what He is doing because He does. Waiting is not easy, but it is so necessary. Psalm 27:14 in the NKJV Bible reads, “Wait for the Lord; be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord.” The Lord knows your heart and knows what you can handle and will never put more on your than you can bear. And even when the waiting becomes difficult, He strengthens your heart. So please I charge you today dear friends as Jesus charged Jairus, ‘Do not be afraid, just believe.’ Those who believe do not act hastily. Whenever you find yourself starting to fret or act hastily, just say to your heart, “WHOEVER BELIEVES WILL NOT ACT HASTILY, SO BE CALM AND JUST BELIEVE.” Dear friends, be calm and just believe; He can and will do it.

Grace and peace be with you.
